CONCEPTUAL ASPECTS:

MMK is passionate about physical and emotional suffering and its manifestation in a culture dominated by bias according to gender, race, ethnicity and stereotypical depiction. She creates drawings, paintings and poetry as a response to the understanding of suffering, ambiguity and sensual awareness that she has unearthed through meditation and experience.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS :

MMK utilizes pen, pencil, and watercolor to combine images and words until an idea depicts the complete truth of a past, present or future moment. The completion of a work enlightens her and guides the creation of each subsequent project.

INFLUENCES THAT INFORM :

MMK empathizes with people who suffer trauma and spiritual emergency, bringing them face to face with the need to find answers to unexpected and unimaginable questions about the meaning of life and death. A professional clinical nurse and psychotherapist, she has shared the personal journeys of those challenged to overcome obstacles as they adjust to life-changing events including:
• Acute spinal cord injury
• The need for surgical, medical, coronary and pediatric intensive care
• Cancer
• HIV/AIDS
• Psychiatric emergency and crisis
• Imprisonment
• Stroke
• Traumatic brain injury

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

MMK has had occasional art classes but is largely self-taught. Until now, all artwork created has been given to others or kept for personal reasons while in development. She has received encouragement from friends and clients who are professional artists to bring her work to a wider and more culturally diverse audience.
